Cavaquinho

The cavaquinho is a four string treble guitar played mostly in the northern Minho province of Portugal. The strings are made of steel and mounted with a minimum of action to facilitate the strumming technique called varejamento. Because of its small size, this instrument travelled all over the world and is now used in many cultures. Its most famous relative is the ukulele.
